This dynamic team of intrepid economic development professionals is armed with expertise including managing projects and brokering innovative business support packages. They tackle challenges of skills pipelines, business expansion, and regeneration in their stride. Their powers include lateral thinking and supporting Council objectives, but their secret weapon is the ability to weave a Golden Thread of knowledge, connection and problem-solving throughout. Their accepted mission - to support local business aspirations, all while wearing their invisible capes of dedication and resilience.

Making a Change Team - Exploitation and Missing Service

We are the Making a Change Team, a multi-disciplinary team of highly dedicated individuals from East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC). Created in July 2021, as a response to protect and support young people (aged 10-17) presenting a high level of vulnerability and are at particular risk of harm from child sexual and criminal exploitation and/or going missing from home, we are unique , providing an intensive 7 day offer to support these children, acknowledging that exploitation does not have business hours and offering disruption and support beyond this. We are innotative passionate and dedicated to positive change

In June 2020, Enfield had stark inequalities across the borough, and high levels of loneliness and ethnic diversity. Our service was consequently created: a core part of Enfield’s strategy to deliver Early Help for residents, ensuring strong, healthy and safe communities. We pledged to integrate communities, remove barriers that prevent communities helping themselves, and to ensure residents facing the sharpest health inequalities, have an equal voice in strategy and planning.

Renew Greater Manchester

The Renew team, a diverse group of individuals, plays a crucial role in upcycling and reusing items in Greater Manchester. By collecting, processing, and selling donated items, they reduce waste, generate revenue for charities, and create green job opportunities. Their innovative approach and commitment to sustainability have made them a national leader in reuse, inspiring others and contributing to a more circular economy.

Relocation, Ethnic Diversity & Integration

The REDI team, established in 2022, supports migrant families in Norfolk. Initially formed to assist Ukrainian refugees, the team has broadened its remit to address language, culture, and integration issues for all migrant families. Through early intervention, they prevent escalation to social care, particularly for families with no recourse to public funds and barriers to access where English is an Additional Language. Their compassionate, proactive work has delivered significant outcomes for vulnerable families, improving access to education, housing, and financial stability. The team’s adaptability and dedication to local service delivery make them a key player in Norfolk’s support network.

North Lanarkshire Council
Assistive Technology Team

Pressures on the care system and ability to provide services, led North Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership to consider new ways to provide home support and care across the authority. An innovative approach was taken to create an assistive technology team to embed the use of digital solutions throughout assessment and planning across all social work services. Team ethos is ‘think tech first’. The ambition is to promote the use of technology as an integral tool to achieving better outcomes for people, maximising their independence and safety, and increasing awareness of technology among staff and across the local community.

Reach Out Domestic Abuse Service

The London Borough of Redbridge’s Reach Out service is a multi-disciplinary team supporting domestic abuse victims/survivors, children and perpetrators through holistic interventions. Key achievements include a 112% increase in referrals, 95% client satisfaction, and OFSTED's recognition as “exceptional.” The service is proactively addressing coercive debt, technology-facilitated abuse, and non-fatal strangulation. Reach Out has trained over 1160 professionals, launched a ‘Centre of Excellence,’ and established a ‘shop’ with free, essential resources clients can access for free. The service fosters collaboration ensures staff well-being, and actively shapes domestic abuse responses through strategic leadership and community involvement.

East Midlands Building Consultancy

East Midlands Building Consultancy (EMBC) is a team of qualified professionals that has been transformed from hitting rock-bottom in terms of staffing and morale to being on top of its brief and building for the future. Mutual support, training, mentoring and nurturing has focused the work and ambitions of this tight-knit partnership team, which has responsibilities across three local authority areas. Recent staff engagement survey shows it is now a vibrant and resilient group with a strong work ethic. EMBC is a highly successful Building Control partnership between South Kesteven District, Newark and Sherwood District

Vulnerability programme - Customer Advocacy Team and Care & Support Team

Westminster City Council’s “Supporting Vulnerable Residents” project exemplifies innovation and social justice, addressing heightened expectations from the Housing Ombudsman. Two new teams, the Customer Advocacy Team (CAT) and Care and Support Team (CAST), were created to proactively manage vulnerable residents’ needs, expedite repairs, and adapt services. CAT resolved over 9,000 cases this year, achieving 97% satisfaction in surveys. Recognized as “ground-breaking” by regulators, the initiative has set a new standard for housing services, driving employee engagement and sector recognition. By prioritising autonomy, compassion, and efficiency, Westminster is building a fairer city where vulnerable communities are supported and celebrated.
