Georgia Chimbani is the Director of Adult and Community Services for Suffolk County Council, and she started her career as a Social Worker in Zimbabwe 25 years ago. Her experiences of building capacity within community organisations in Africa, have provided invaluable cultural perspectives that she has been able to use to deliver innovative and positive outcomes for local communities in the UK. One of a handful of black Directors of Adult Social Care in the country, Georgia knows first-hand the challenges of being a black woman in local government and has used her experiences to champion diversity. Georgia is a strong advocate for the promotion of equality, non-discriminatory practice, and empowerment of communities. A member of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services [ADASS], Georgia is currently co-chair of the Older People and Dementia Network and DASS lead for the eastern region Mental Health Network. She has recently taken on responsibility as lead for the ADASS International Network.
