Isle of Wight Council
John has been the Chief Executive of the Isle of Wight Unitary Council since December 2015. Since his appointment Children’s Services has secured an improved ‘good’ rating by Ofsted, the Fire and Rescue Service achieved a ‘good’ rating by the Home Office, the model of Adult Social Care services has been transformed and become better integrated with health services, an ambitious regeneration programme has been started and the council is now much better placed to secure its key objective of being financially balanced and sustainable.
He has over 32 years of local government experience, the majority at a strategic leadership level, across a range of service areas including community development, environment, leisure, culture, economic development and corporate management. He has a passion for developing talent and continuous improvement.
John chairs the local health and care board, sits on the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sustainability Transformation Partnership and is a governor/trustee of a children’s speech and language school. He has an MBA from Southampton University.
