Pam Smith is Chief Executive of Stockport Council. Leading a workforce of over 3,000 employees, she is also Greater Manchester’s Lead Chief Executive for Equalities, Fairness and Inclusion.
Pam joined Stockport Council - which is one of the 10 local authorities which make up the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) - in September 2017 from Burnley Council, where she was also Chief Executive. Prior to that, Pam held senior roles at Rochdale Council, Oldham Council, AdviserPlus and the Audit Commission.
Stockport Council’s Chief Executive also sits on local and regional senior leadership boards, covering the health, public safety and housing sectors amongst others.
Pam’s main passion is ensuring that the customer or resident is at the heart of everything the Council does. Her focus is to ensure Stockport continues to be a success regionally, nationally and internationally and is sustainable delivering the public services it needs to thrive in financially challenging times.
Under Pam’s leadership, Stockport has also been leading the way in terms of digitalisation thanks to the Council’s Digital by Design programme, which has been recognised nationally for its innovation – meaning residents can access council services easily and quickly, no matter where they are. Pam has also ensured that people are at the heart of everything Stockport Council does in their Digital by Design programme. In Pam’s own words, “We may be delivering new technology but our end goal is to use digital to improve the customer experience.”
