Social Care Institute for Excellence
Tony is a nationally respected expert in health and social care, with 40 years’ experience spanning a full range of roles across sectors.
He was appointed as Chief Executive of the Social Care Institute for Excellence in January 2014. He has operated as a frontline social worker, senior hospital social worker, training manager and manager of day and domiciliary services, as well as Barnardo’s Principal Policy and Development Officer.
In the early 90s Tony worked for Price Waterhouse Coopers on a range of health and social care projects before joining East Riding of Yorkshire Council as its Director of Social Services, Housing and Public Protection in 1995. Liverpool City Council’s director from 2003, Tony then became Chief Executive of North East Lincolnshire Council in 2008. He was president of the Association of Directors of Social Services in 2005, and was President elect for the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives before taking up his current post.
Tony is the Chair of the Doncaster Children’s Services Trust, the first of its kind in the UK, and has held Board roles in several charities. He is passionate about the planning and delivery of high quality health and social care services which are driven by those who use them and which make a real difference to people’s lives.
Tony was awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list 2010, in recognition of his contribution to social care.
