10 June 2026 | Grosvenor House, London

The Winners for the 2026 LGC Awards have been announced!

Last night more than 1,300 local authority professionals gathered at Grosvenor House, London, to celebrate the very best in local government.

The LGC Awards are the premier celebration of excellence in local government, recognising the outstanding achievements of officers, councillors and organisations across the sector. Last night's ceremony was particularly special, marking the 30th anniversary of these prestigious awards.

The LGC Awards see entries from council teams across the UK undergo a rigorous judging process presenting their ideas and innovations to panels of senior officers from other councils. LGC seeks to share the winning ideas across local government to inspire other councils to improve their own services.

Award-winning stand-up comedian, actress and writer Sophie Duker announced the winners including Council of the Year, Burnley BC.

LGC acting editor Martin George said:
“In 1996, we launched what were hailed as ‘the first awards designed to reward excellence throughout local government’. In the years since then, these awards have done just that – and then some. And I’m proud to say that in 2026 they are bigger than ever.

“This year, we received a record number of entries. And you only have to look through the shortlists to get a sense of the compassion, the dedication and the innovation that you all represent in the room tonight [...] "

LGC would like to thank the esteemed judges, everyone that entered, all those that attended, and our valued sponsors without whose support these awards would not take place.

Entries for the 2027 awards open in July so watch this space!

We look forward to seeing your entries for next year.

 Kind regards,

 LGC Awards team
