This year has been truly exceptional. We are proud to announce that we received over 1,000 entries - a record-breaking milestone and something that has never been achieved before. The response from across the sector has been outstanding, and it reflects the incredible quality, innovation and commitment within local government.
A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to enter. Preparing an awards submission takes significant effort, and we are extremely grateful to every individual and organisation who put themselves forward.
Martin George, acting editor of LGC, said: “We received more than 1,000 entries to the LGC Awards 2026, making it another record breaking year. It’s a huge achievement to make the shortlist.
“All too often, councils are the unsung heroes of their local areas, with brilliant staff working tirelessly to serve their communities. These awards are a chance to celebrate their innovation, dedication and compassion.
“It’s brilliant to see such a widespread and diverse range of councils and combined authorities represented on this year’s shortlist. Best of luck to all of those shortlisted.”

Thank you once again for making the 2026 LGC Awards our biggest year yet.
Attend the 2026 LGC Awards to celebrate excellence, network with leaders, gain inspiration, and recognise outstanding achievements shaping the future of local government.
The LGC Awards pride themselves on their rigorous judging process, where every entry is read by our panel of 100+ judges before creating a shortlist. In stage two of judging, shortlisted entrants will present their entries to the panel of judges for deliberation.
Sponsorship of an award gives you a uniquely powerful opportunity to engage with authority leaders, in print, online and face to face while positioning your organisation as a thought leader in your category of choice and sharing best practice throughout
