Appointed as Chief Executive designate of the new Somerset Council on 3rd October 2022 Duncan focussed on the creation of the new Council for the first six months of his appointment. Since the successful vesting of the new Council Duncan continues to led the organisation and has focussed on developing the strategic and cultural aspects of the Council as well as supporting significant inward investments in Somerset as well as work on education improvements. Duncan is also a member of the NHS Somerset Integrated Care Board. Before this Duncan was Chief Executive of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and heavily involved in many high-profile events including a significant role in delivering Operation London Bridge. This role also included significant work to stabilise the Council and tackle serious finance and governance issues. Duncan was also a Board Member of Frimley NHS ICB. Previously Duncan held a number of local government chief executive roles alongside a portfolio of non-executive board positions. Whilst a generalist by background Duncan was originally brought into local government to deliver large scale economic growth and regeneration, particularly estate, town and city centre programmes.
