Joanne’s career began at Birmingham Council aged 16 and since 2017 has been the first female Chief Executive at Manchester City Council. During her tenure Joanne has been faced with immense challenges including the aftermath of the Manchester Arena Bombing, and the Covid-19 Pandemic. Joanne was named the Local Authority Chief Executive of the Year at the 2021 annual MJ Award, she then oversaw Manchester attain Council of the Year status at the 2022 annual LGC Awards. Joanne was awarded the OBE for services to local government in 2009 and served as the President of SOLACE between 2020 - 2022.
